Wong Chia-chi (played by Tang Wei) is a young university student who becomes involved in a plot to assassinate a high-ranking intelligence agent for the puppet government, Mr. Yee (played by Tony Leung Chiu-wai).
Wong is thrust into the role of "Mrs. Mak," a sophisticated married woman tasked with seducing Mr. Yee so the group can ultimately assassinate him. The film's first half plays out as a tense, slow-burn thriller in Hong Kong, where the young and inexperienced students try to pull off their amateurish plan.
